883 posts. Joined Mar 2005. #10. Posted February 4, 2011. Live in Lancashire now and they say BREW but I still say MASH. The Lancs even call breadcakes teacakes ie plain teacakes & currant teacakes. I have tried to educate them as any Yorkshireman would but they will not change. Share this post.

A mash-out temp of at least 168 o makes the enzymes lose their complex structure. It is similar to resting bread dough to make the gluten lay out and lose its toughness.

Mashing, draining the tun with a trickle, then sparging has taken me as long as 4-4.5 hours. With a small recirculating pump after the mash, and then again after adding sparge water reduces the time to about an hour once the mash conversion is complete. Makes a brew day that much faster not requiring me to get started at 7 am

The general idea of mash recirculation is to take wort from the bottom of the mash tun (in our case our brew pot) and pump it back to the top, creating a constant flow of liquid from top to bottom. This is generally speaking a pretty simple process, but there are a few things to consider. There should be a way to control/adjust the flow.
You should cold brew coffee for about 16 hours. After the first 8 hours the caffeine is infused into the water, and the more you let it sit the more flavor will be extracted from the ground coffee. The first 8 hours are when the caffeine in your coffee is extracted, no more will steep after that.
If your Keurig is plugged in, the water is all heated up but when you press the ‘brew’ button, it does not brew the cup of coffee- there is a possibility of a blockage somewhere in the unit.
